The Baltimore Zionist District

The Baltimore Zionist District

The Baltimore Zionist District supports Israel's counterterrorism strike against the terrorist organization Hamas, which has been bombarding Israel with a barrage of rockets and missiles almost daily for the last several years. BZD believes Israel's actions are justifiable, given that only last week hundreds of missiles and mortar shells were fired at Israeli civilian communities, including the firing of 80 missiles on a single day. Since December 19, Hamas has fired more than 250 rockets and mortars at Israeli civilians. "Israel has the right to protect its citizens. BZD stands behind the Israeli government and our hearts go out to the IDF soldiers who are defending the Jewish State," said Fran Sonnenschein, BZD executive director. Israel disengaged from the Gaza Strip in 2005 in an effort to create an opportunity for peace. In return, the Hamas terror organization took control of Gaza and has been using its citizens as cover while it deliberately targets Israeli communities and denies any chance for peace. Israel is acting out of its basic right for self-defense. "Israel has tried to use restraint and to avoid this sort of escalation, but was left with no other way to protect its citizens from rockets," said Jim Schiller, BZD chairman of the board. We encourage everybody to issues their own letters of support for the Jewish state of Israel, which can be sent to our government officials and the media (see addresses below). Your letters will help Israel obtain the support and understanding of the international community as it confronts terror and advances the interest of all those who wish the forces of peace and co-existence to determine the agenda of the region. "As you light your last Chanukah candle tonight, please bear in mind our brave soldiers and the citizens of Israel," said BZD President Loryn Lesser. "Your positive actions can make a difference."
