The Greater Baltimore Jewish Community Expresses Continued Support for the People of Israel as the Nation Defends Itself Against Sustained Terrorist Attacks

(Monday, December 29, 2008) The Baltimore Jewish Council (BJC) stands firmly with Israel as it exercises its right to defend itself and ensure the safety of its citizens, by seeking to end Hamas’ daily bombings of Southern Israel.

BJC President, Jon Laria, observed, “There can be no comparison between an organization that targets civilians, through mortars, rocket-fire and suicide bombers, and a government that defends its civilians from continued terrorist attacks. Hamas needs to end the rocket fire now so Israel is not forced to defend itself. If Hamas ceases, the bloodshed ends and all civilians in Israel and Gaza can be safe and stop living in fear.”
Since December 19th, Hamas has fired more than 250 rockets and mortars deeper into Southern Israel than ever before. These continued Hamas attacks targeting civilians must end.

The Greater Baltimore Jewish community, as always, stands in solidarity with the people of Israel. Jimmy Berg, Chair of THE ASSOCIATED: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore reaffirmed this commitment saying, “Our hearts and prayers are with the people of Israel, many of whom have been forced, yet again, to live their lives in fear, never straying far from a bomb shelter. In the coming days, we will continue to find ways to express our support as we stand with Israel through this crisis.”
